Dear Mr Hall
20/01544/F & 20/01545/LB Proposed change of use from unoccupied offices to
residential apartment studios (C3), 27 King Street, King’s Lynn.

The St Margaret’s with St Nicholas Ward Forum realises that our objection to this application may be outside the allotted time, but asks that it could be considered nonetheless. This is an important Grade2* listed building and we wish to add our voice to those of the other objectors and formally object to this application.

The forum is particularly concerned that apparently work has already been undertaken on such an important property before planning consent has been given and unless enforcement action is taken it will send all the wrong signals to other owners of listed properties.

Among the numerous and extremely insensitive proposals affecting original features, some indeed already executed, to which the forum objects are the covering of panelling, the loss of vital support for parts of the structure, the insertion of new sub-dividing walls which will result in cramped and unfortunately truncated rooms and the ill-considered additions of bathroom facilities/

If the application is allowed to go ahead as it stands it would be to the detriment of the building and would seriously effect its integrity. A smaller number of apartments showing greater sensitivity to the existing structure could result in very fine accommodation and the forum strongly urges that the applicant us required to re-design the entire scheme, preferably working with the borough’s conservation team and the expertise of a body such as Historic England.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Julian Litten,
Chairman, St Margaret’s with St Nicholas Ward Forum.
