Riverfront Delivery Response from the Ward Forum 27th November 2016

ARCHIVED FROM PARKING PAGE — August 2018

Following what could only be described as a thoroughly flawed ‘consultation’, Norfolk County Council decided to end free parking on South Quay offering a very few ‘resident only’ spaces there and restricting those who qualified for those spaces to two small areas, King Staithe Square and the quay itself.

This was a considerable blow in an area where homes are period properties and where few have garages or parking spaces.   The situation was exacerbated because a three hour limit was placed on parking on all the metered spaces — twenty four hours a day.   Businesses in the hospitality sector were also hit.

The forum took up the case and following extensive discussions it was finally agreed that the three hour parking restriction on the South Quay at night would be lifted.   Changing this regulation proved to be a long and arduous involving the legal team at County Hall, but many months later it was lifted.
